The Road to Nowhere

August 14, 2012

Happy Birthday Dick!  He is 71 today and celebrates by picking some delicate red raspberries off a bush in our campground.

After finding out that our transmission has yet to leave Germany and won’t arrive in Anchorage until August 21, we are free to wander.   I am becoming impatient, but there is nothing I can do but continue to enjoy the drive and the splendor of the country.  Not a bad alternative.

We are back on the Seward highway and headed for Denali.  In my Milepost book I read about a tiny town named Indian with a restaurant and a view of the Turnagain Arm, so that is where we have lunch.

Not much else on our agenda today as we enjoy the scenery and look for a campground.  We decide on Trapper Creek (the name of the town) Campground.  No view, but it does have full hook-ups and on the road over, we get a glimpse of Mt. McKinley an extremely rare sight as it is usually obscured by clouds and haze.

Some personal stuff since I have time to ponder.

Thus far on the journey:

Lost (and found)                                                                                                                                                                                                        1 earring & 1 eyeglass lens.

Items we’ve gone through

2 rolls of paper towels, 2 rolls of toilet paper, 1 box Kleenex, 1 bar of soap, 1 tube toothpaste, numerous sponges, 4 audio tapes, 5 DVD’s, 6 books, 1 photo card, 1 can mosquito repellant, 1 pair of shoes, and a number of toenails and fingernails.

Dick is eating a lot and I see his weight gain.  It is difficult when you are on the road, snacking and being sedentary.  I, as always try to be careful with my diet but it is a struggle.  I am eating very little meat and concentrating on fish & chicken, but I never resist my ice cream stops!

With all the hiking you are doing, I’m sure you are very firm in the musles. Enjoy the berries and cool weather.
