The Journey continues

July 16, 2012

Soft water and a really hot shower start my morning.  Also, since we have wireless, we Skype both Dianne (Dick’s sister), and daughter Susan.  Seeing them is almost as if we are in the same room!

Our itinerary today is to travel toward Prince Rupert.  At the gas station, Dick sees a Costco, so off I go to purchase more food.  Unfortunately, we encounter another episode of “lack of communication”  so I decide to sit in the very back of the RV and write my Blog in silence.

There is a lovely rest stop by Burns Lake with picnic benches and tables, so we eat our lunch while taking in the view.  Such a gorgeous day with  cloudless, azure blue skies, temperatures in the 80’s and clean, fresh, air.  What a difference from Jasper and Prince George, although we find out later the haze there was caused by the wild fires still burning in Colorado.

We listen to another audio tape (The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks) while cruising along the Yellowhead Highway.  I now take over the wheel of the RV for the first time since we left Santa Barbara and after two hours of driving past farmlands, fields of flowers and a few nondescript towns, I pull off the road (at an ice cream stand) and Dick takes over.

The landscape is changing to mountains and rivers, and according to my Milepost Travel Planner it mentions a beautiful spot not to be missed; Twin Falls and Glacier Gulch.   The book was not wrong.  The hike along the creek provides us with spectacular views.

The ‘Ksan campgrounds we are staying at tonight are the best yet, as our spot looks out to a striking mountain range and the Skeena River flows alongside the grassy area a few feet away.  The town, Old Hazelton, is reconstructed to look much like it did in the 1890’s.

Dick builds a campfire while I prepare dinner.  It is 10:30 PM and just now getting dark.
