Banff

July 13, 2012

Dick is charting out our day in Banff as we leave the campground at 9:30.  It begins to rain, so we decide to find another campground for this evening and do our sight- seeing the rest of the day.  Tunnel mountain has all the hook ups we require, so we reserve a spot and are now on our way around the Minnewanka Loop.  First stop; Hoodoo Trail, where we are met by magnificent view points and the famous Banff Springs Hotel in the distance.  Below us; the Bow River.  The loop continues by Vermillion Lakes, the Banff Golf course and the Minnewanka River; each stop more beautiful than before.  I am most impressed with Bow Falls.  It is like a mini Niagara Falls and oh so powerful.  You can hike a trail up to the top; see its spectacular beauty and hear its load roar as the currents rush below.

The Banff Springs Hotel is our next stop.  This luxurious get a way, was built in the 1920’s by the man who started the Canadian Pacific Railway Company.  The guests were only the well-to-do as the rooms were extremely costly.  We take a bit of a tour and decide to have a small snack on the deck of the lunch room.  The view is nothing less than spectacular with the backdrop of the mountains and the Bow River below.  Canada is an amazing country and so much to see that my camera is exploding!
