May 28

Early this morning, Dick, Olivia, Rafael and I take the road along side our rental home that leads to a trail along the river.  A gorgeous morning, filled with the sounds of birds, the rushing waters and the delicious smells of the pine trees.  We hike as far as the bridge (about 1/2 mile) and then turn around.

Today is Rafael’s 9th birthday and we drive to a nearby park to celebrate.  The location of the park is situated along the Deschutes River so the scenery is spectacular!

We play Frisbee, paddle ball, fly kites and glider planes and then feast on fresh fruit and birthday cake.  The night ends with a barbecue at Michael & Carmen’s home.

Before dinner, I play hop scotch and baseball (hit a single!) in the backyard, showing the kids that “Nana’ Joyce is still able to compete with the “young ones.”

We are looking forward to Kirk, Susan and Brian’s visit on Wednesday and we continue to explore our surroundings.

Rainy Days

It has been raining for the past two days so we are enjoying our River Wild Retreat by keeping warm and cozy by the fireplace.  Last night our family joined us for dinner and “game night.”  Playing Sequence with the grand kids is so much fun, and brings back memories of my childhood.

We are having Olivia & Rafael spend the weekend with us.  Rafael’s birthday is Monday and he is celebrating birthday # 9 at a nearby park. According to the meteorologist, warmer days are just around the corner.Image

Olivia & Elvis

After walking the grand kids (and dog) to school, we do some more shopping, but Dick gets a bloody nose in the store, so we spend the rest of the day looking for remedies.  We both have come down with coughs and sniffles, but in spite of it all, we are enjoying our River Wild Retreat.

The weather is a bit chilly (52 today), but the rest of the week we will see temperatures in the mid 60’s.

No more deer sightings, but I did spot a beautiful bird outside the deck.  Will send the photo over after I upload onto this computer.Image

River Wild Retreat

We are now at our rental home in Bend for 6 weeks.  The home is about 100 feet above the Deschutes River and nestled between magnificent Ponderosa trees.  Other than the blustery weather, we are beginning to feel like real Oregonians and being that our rental car is still available, are exploring the area and stocking up on groceries.

This morning, Dick spotted a large deer right below our deck!  The sun rises at 5:30 A.M. and sets at 8:30 P.M. so we have many hours of daylight to enjoy our surroundings.

This afternoon we are driving to the elementary school to have lunch in the classrooms of Olivia & Rafael.

This home has open views in all of the rooms so we can look out to the mountains, river and trees; so peaceful and spiritual.

Thinking of family and friends and hoping all is well.  My photos are being sent shortly.

Love, Joyce
